– More on those damn elusive OXO-cubes –

A few weeks ago I posted a number of entries on my Blog Page, articles about how I was having difficulties in obtaining 3 of the OXO Herbs and Spices cubes,. For me, a fun, humorous and nonsense post. “Oh my gosh” – [OMG] this certainly opened up a ‘Can of Complaints’ against Campbell – [Nee OXO] for no longer manufacturing the Mexican and Italian cubes and leaving the Chinese cubes for the overseas markets only.

I’ve had a number of comments on the posted articles but 48 e-mails from all over UK and the world from people who are complaining that they also couldn’t obtain the Herbs and Spices cubes either.

I’ve sent a round robin e-mail to all of them suggesting they send e-mails, telephone and letters to Campbell, complaining. [Im not holding my breath though].

I have just been on the phone to customer services and the chap on the phone seemed to find it all very amusing. He confirmed they have been discontinued but has given me hope for them being reintroduced…

Apparently following an internet campaign, Bisto gravy granules were put back into production. Now I don’t imagine we could generate as much pressure as that campaign but I’m willing to try..!

There are some for sale on ebay, she has 20 packets, mind you at £1 per box its a bit steep but just thought id mention it. im after finding some for my sister she says her curry isnt the same without the cubes, i managed to find some in the co-op but only 2 boxes. someone has told me to try poundstretchers, but there isnt one around here.

I am surprised at the response I received from my posts a few weeks ago, on an article about how I was having difficulties in obtaining 3 of the OXO Herbs and Spices cubes,. For me, a fun, humorous and nonsense post. “Oh my gosh” – [OMG] this certainly opened up a ‘Can of complaints’ against Premier Foods, [the UK’s biggest food producer and home of Britain’s favourite]. – [OXO] for no longer distributing/manufacturing the Mexican and Italian cubes and leaving the Chinese cubes for the overseas markets only.

A number of comments on the post but 28-mails from concerned people from, not only in the UK but world wide.

For me all is not lost yet, I have a grand daughter on a placement [employment position] up in Edinburg [Scotland] who has found a source for those damn elusive cubes.

I received in the post last Saturday an envelope from her containing 3-boxes of those cubes I can’t get. Here’s what she writes:

“Hi Grandad. Well for the past goodness knows how long I have been searching for those OXO-cubes for you. Every shop I go in takes me down isles that I don’t need, when ever I go off on a cycle ride to a different town I find myself going to the local supermarket ‘just in case’, well imagine my delight when I finally came across them earlier this week. I am quite certain that nobody has reacted in quite the same way to OXO-cubes. [Well except for you].

I was very pleased with myself I can tell you however I was absolutely gutted to find that someone had pipped me to the post and you had already received a delivery, well I can better that I can send you as many as you want.”

How about that then? – !!!!!

I’m thinking of hiring a van, motoring all the way up to Scotland, buy a van load of ‘them’, so, if anyone would like some then I will sell them to you at the bargain price of £5.00 a cube. I think this bring out the entrepreneur in me – [only joking of course].

For me the OXO-cube saga is now closed.

Those damn elusive OXO-cubes.

– Those damn elusive OXO-cubes are no longer elusive, I have the definitive answer –

I now know what the truth is and why there are none of the Herb and Spice cubes I wanted on the supermarket shelves – [Mexican, Indian and Chinese]. I telephoned the company concerned and spoke to a knowledgeable gentleman and he explained and gave the following reasons

It would appear due to the lack of consumer demand the Mexican and Indian cubes have been discontinued and no longer manufactured – [Why? I used them]. The Chinese cubes are still being manufactured but are for export only. Do I suspect the Chinese people are the only ones using them – [funny that].

That only leaves the Italian cubes for the UK market.

These two packets of OXO-cubes mean more to me then all the cubes I’ve had in the past and those that I’m likely to use in the future. This morning I received a small packet in the post from a very, very dear friend who unbeknown to me has been searching for them on my behalf, where she got them from I don’t know, all I know is that they were acquired with a great deal of thought and possible some little expense, packed and sent with love. My friend I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Those damned elusive OXO-cubes
– I seek them here, I seek them there, I seek them every damn where –

For years now I have been eating away at my local Supermarket and for some unknown reason they don’t stock the kind I want, I’m just not getting anywhere, I’ve tried phoning the local store, I’ve even phoned their head office in London, I’ve had scores of customer request forms filled out, on more than one occasion have spoken to the Stores Manager, I’ve sent so many e-mails to them I’ve lost count, all my friends and relations all over the country are looking for those damned elusive OXO-cubes for me.

I have phoned OXO’s main offices and spoken to their Customer Services Manager who informs me that this Supermarket main Purchasing and Supplies Department don’t put in a demand for them. I thought at least the OXO-company might have sent me some complementary ones but they didn’t.

Now before anyone e-mails me and says “Oh yes they do”, “Oh no they don’t”, well not for the sort I want, the Chinese and Mexican – blue and brownie coloured ones.

I ask please circulate my request to all of your friends – !!!!!!!!!!

Supermarkets stock OXO cubes Beef, Chicken, Vegetable, Indian, Italian, why not for my Chinese and Mexican cubes?.
